My Chemical Romance

American rock bands are still at the forefront of record sales and My Chemical Romance is one of the most successful in recent years. Formed in 2001, the five-piece band is variously described as alternative rock, pop punk and other terms. They comprise of Gerard Way on lead vocals, brother Mikey Way on bass guitar, Frank Iero on rhythm guitar, Ray Toro on lead guitar and Bob Bryar on drums.

The band has had success with single and album releases and they are known to be hard working, having toured a great deal. Their concerts have been shared with some other well-established bands, such as Muse, Green Day, Fall Out Boy and The Offspring. Promotional videos for songs are very important these days and My Chemical Romance put a lot of effort into them, creating the right atmosphere for the record. The lyrics sometimes reflect their interest in horror and fantasy comic books.

The debut album, I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love was released in 2002. This was quite a feat as they had only come together as a band, the year before. The major breakthrough came in 2004 with the release of the follow up, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. This recording reached platinum sales and the five musicians in My Chemical Romance, or MCR as they are sometimes referred to, have never looked back. 2006 brought their ambitious concept album, The Black Parade. Tracks from this album can be heard on the Xbox 360 Guitar Hero II, a must for all budding air guitarists everywhere!

Enthusiastic fans can buy a 2DVD/CD set called Life on the Murder Scene that combines a documentary on the history of the band, music videos, the making of the videos, and two live concert performances. Another treat for My Chemical Romance fans is the biography, Something Incredible This Way Comes, written by Paul Stenning.

The band's busy schedule is to continue during 2008 and dates are set for an American tour. The early part of the tour includes San Francisco, Mexico City, Chicago, Austin and Memphis. There is also a concert planned, yet to be confirmed, in the prestigious Madison Square Garden in New York in May. The band will also be touring Europe from late October through November. My Chemical Romance never seem to rest! Tickets for all these dates are in great demand, so book early!
